Maxie the goat goes to Farm Sanctuary

A baby goat that started life as a mascot at a Cornell University fraternity is now heading too greener pastures. The house manager overruled the students and called for help from the Tompkins County SPCA when it became apparent that the kid named Maxie could not live on campus.

The SPCA contacted Farm Sanctuary in Watkins Glen to find a new home for the goat. In a statement Farm Sanctuary National Shelter Director Susie Coston said, " College Campuses are no place for goats." The Sanctuary points out goats typically live in herds not alone. "We're glad these students did the right thing and gave this little goat a chance to be a kid," said Coston.

The Tompkins County SPCA has not identified which fraternity was housing Maxie. Farm Sanctuary provides lifelong care for nearly 1,000 rescued farm animals. They are three shelters in New York and California.
