Old Man Winter isn’t giving up yet. A complex storm heading into the upper Great Lakes, redeveloping along the mid Atlantic Coast, means many of us will have a little shoveling to do.

Ahead of this system, somewhat warmer air will try and work in overnight tonight and allow some sleet and freezing rain to mix with the snow. The best chance for any of this wintry mix is Syracuse south and west, down through Ithaca/Cortland and into the Finger Lakes. As of this writing however, I feel the bulk of this storm will be snow with maybe a touch of sleet.

There is another very tricky part to this storm. The main area of snow with the storm is progressing at a steady pace north and eastward. Again, as of this writing, Monday evening, the snow was already tapering off across the southern tier, southern Finger Lakes and western NY. This poses issues with possible snowfall amounts.

Here are the highlights (or lowlights) on the storm.

*Mostly snow, maybe some sleet mixed in

*Bulk of storm is over for Syracuse/CNY by Tuesday daybreak

*Storm lasts longer the further north and east you go

*Total accumulations 1-4” for Syracuse south and west

*Total accumulation 3-7” eastern Lake Ontario counties into the Mohawk Valley

*Total accumulation 5-10” far northern and eastern NY into the Adirondacks

Lake effect snow will follow Tuesday afternoon through Thursday directly east of Lake Ontario. A foot could easily fall on the Tug Hill.

The primary area of lake effect snow shifts southward, weakens and moves down into Syracuse and central NY Thursday Night and Friday
