Some runners go for time, others stop for champagne

It's a New Year's tradition:  runners out early for a five mile jaunt around Syracuse's North Side.

This morning, Syracuse Track Club's Resolution Run brought out 500+, despite the snow.  It was billed as a run, not a race, but the front runners were clearly looking for times:  Mike Dee, from East Syracuse, was the first to finish the 5 miles in 31 minutes, seven seconds. Others don't rush it, and actually stop to toast in the New Year  with champagne along the way

Dee says it's the 'positivity' of this run that attracts so many, a thought echoed by Syracuse Track Club president Margaret Hartmann, who says the 34 year old event gets bigger every year. Another plus:   most runners stay for the inside party at Spaghetti Warehouse, which puts on a big buffet, followed by door prizes from the club.  Hartmann says the conversations center on future running events, and how much the running community is growing here in the Syracuse area.
