FAYETTEVILLE -- At Four Seasons Ski in Fayetteville the motto is embracing the snow and participating in winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, and sledding. But it's not all fun and games. Safety is a big concern especially with little kids. It's why Four Seasons owner, John Goodfellow makes it a priority.
"The tubing is regulated so people don't get out of hand. People don't get hurt," says Goodfellow.
His customers like Christine Granato and her nephew Anthony Cimino from Cicero are taking notice.
"I didn't really think about it when we came out here, but it seems like they're very precautionary around here, they keep a safe distance, and it seems like they have it under control," says Granato.
"They're helping everybody so nobody gets hurt and it's a lot safer that way," says Cimino.
To stay safe, make sure to wear a helmet. Research done by nationwide childrens' hospitals found that from 1997 to 2007, more than 20,000 sledding injuries required treatment in a hospital emergency room every year, with 34% of those patients having head injuries.
People like Ben Cimino, says spending time at Four Seasons Thursday evening provided a welcome break from shoveling snow.
"We were getting some cabin fever and thought it was a quick, easy way to have some fun outside. A little cold, but the blood keeps you pumping as you go down that slide," says Cimino.
Megan Gentry is visiting from Texas and thinks the change in climate is a lot of fun.
"It's slippery. It's like swimming but in snow. Yeah it's a lot of fun," says Gentry.
While it can be a lot of fun, it's important to always remember safety first, even in the snow.
