SYRACUSE --

The Rescue Mission Alliance of Syracuse opened a new bottle and can redemption center business on Tuesday. It’s called Mission Returns.

A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Rescue Mission to help end hunger and homelessness.

Patrons who deposit cans and bottles have the option to collect the deposit return fee or donate the return fees to the Rescue Mission. The Rescue Mission says that when the returns are donated in full, it will receive the redemption fee, plus the bottle handling fee, as a donation.

The centers will redeem all bottles and cans that are returnable in New York State.

The Mission Returns operates in seven Syracuse-area locations, with additional sites set to open in the near future. These centers redeem all bottles and cans that are returnable in New York State.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Rescue Mission and the program will provide work force development training for Rescue Mission residents and clients.

Mission Returns will also pick up bottles and cans at restaurant locations for redemption or donation; provide collection bins and pick up of bottles and cans at business/office sites; and help organizations with fundraising can and bottle drives.

There is a center currently located at the Rescue Missions at 1712 Erie Boulevard East, 817 Butternut Street, 1100 North Salina Street, and Green Hills Shopping Center. Other centers are opening soon. Click here to see a full list of locations.
