SYRACUSE (AP) -- Authorities say dozens of people have been arrested in a three-county crackdown on welfare fraud in central New York.

Officials say nearly 80 people in Onondaga, Oswego and Oneida counties were arrested Wednesday and charged with bilking taxpayers out of more than $850,000 in public benefits.

Authorities tell local media outlets that the arrests include a woman charged with stealing more than $70,000 in public assistance benefits while working for a bus company.

Officials say more arrests are expected.

Police from several law enforcement agencies conducted pre-dawn raids, with most of the arrests occurring in the Syracuse area.
