WEBSTER -- The man who killed two firefighters after responding to a blaze in Webster, NY left a typewritten note saying he wanted to burn down the neighborhood and "do what I like doing best, killing people."

Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering said in a press conference Tuesday, 62 year old ex-convict William Spengler set fire to his house to lure first responders into a trap, armed with three weapons. Spengler was living in a home on Lake Road on Lake Ontario with his sister. Pickering says his sister is still missing after they have tried searching for her.

The flames broke out around 6:00 Monday morning at a home on Lake Road. Chief Pickering also confirmed today seven houses burned during the fire.

Two other first responders remain hospitalized in Rochester a day after the shooting. The firefighters, Joseph Hofstetter and Theodore Scardino are recovering, but their conditions are not being released at this time.

Fireman Tomas Kaczowka died at the scene and fireman Mike Chiapperini, who is also a lieutenant with the Webster Police Department also died at the scene.

John Ritter, who happened to be driving by the scene at the time in his private vehicle received injuries from shrapnel striking the side of his body in his car.

Spengler killed himself after exchanging bullets with a police officer. He was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. Police don't know a motive yet.
