NEW HARTFORD -- New Hartford Police have arrested a Mohawk man after a month-long investigation into a contracting scam.

Police say 34-year-old Joseph D. Holleran placed an ad on Craigslist for a handyman-for-hire in mid-October 2012. A Mohawk resident answered the ad and pre-paid Holleran over $800 for roofing repair, according to police.

The investigation showed that Holleran never purchased any supplies and had not started any work, even after he was contacted several times by the man who paid him.

Holleran was taken into custody by Ilion Police during a traffic stop, and then turned over to New Hartford Police.

He was arraigned and is being held in the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.

Holleran has been charged with petit larceny.

If anyone has had dealings with Holleran, New Hartford police want you to contact them at (315) 733-6666.
