ALBANY (AP) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo has chosen Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner and Assemblyman Keith Wright of Manhattan to share the duties of chairman of the state Democratic Party.

Governors traditionally run their party and determine its message, but the party chairmen and chairwomen help lead fundraising and voter appeals. The full committee is expected to affirm the choices soon.

They replace Jay Jacobs of Long Island who was chosen to be state party chairman by former Gov. David Paterson. Jacobs said he supports the choices.

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and Democratic Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver praised the choice.

Parties usually choose one person to handle the duties of chairman, which include planning conventions and frequent appearances to meet key supporters and donors statewide.
