TOWN OF SALINA (AP) -- Residents of a suburban Syracuse neighborhood are asking the town's approval to hire a sharpshooter to kill coyotes, citing danger to children and pets.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that residents on Scottsdale Circle in Salina want to hire an exterminator to shoot coyotes with a crossbow or other bow-and-arrow weapon.

The town will hold a public hearing Monday evening at their regular town board meeting.

Residents in the same neighborhood, which is surrounded by woods, wanted to hire someone to shoot foxes a couple of years ago, but the board denied that request.

A large population of stray cats has also stirred conflict in Salina between residents who like to let their pets roam and those who hate to have the animals spray and defecate around their homes.
