SYRACUSE -- On a beautiful day in downtown Syracuse, thousands of people filled the streets for the annual Veterans Parade. Norm Mondue was glad to see the massive turnout. He’s a Vietnam Veteran and his son is currently serving in the armed forces. He never takes the work done by the military for granted and said that days like this mean a lot to him.
"I always come to the parade, I've never missed one,” said Mondue. “I'm a strong believer in what our veterans have done for this country."
Active servicemen and women, veterans and reservists all marched down Salina Street to cheering crowds and music from local school bands. The parade finished at the Onondaga County War Memorial. It’s a memorial that James Owens is proud to take school children and visitors on tours.
"I have never seen a memorial hall in a place like this that we have in Onondaga County,” said Owens
Fay Gambocarto said she's glad to be able to say thanks to those who have defended America and those who continue that work today.
"It's grown every year and it's wonderful to see all these people,” said Gambocarto.
