Syracuse University held a special Veterans Day tribute honoring U.S. service members killed since 9/11.

ROTC cadets read the name of every service member killed in action. Cadets started reading the names on the steps of Hendricks Chapel and did not finish for nearly six hours.

Following the reading of the names, a Veterans Day Ceremony was held in Hendricks Chapel. Retired Vice Admiral Robert Murret, former Director of Naval Intelligence and a professor at SU's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, says Syracuse University has a long history of helping veterans going back to the years following World War Two when thousands of veterans enrolled in the university using the GI Bill. "

"The programs that were put into place by the leadership of the university to look out for veterans and their families really continue to this day," he says. One of those benefiting from SU's program to help veterans is Anthony Keach. Keach, who served with the army in both Iraq and Afghanistan is now a student at SU and says the school helped him make the transition from the battlefield to the classroom.  "It's a really rewarding experience to see your service pay off and now you can complete your education and give back to your country," he says.
