GEDDES -- It's a sure sign that summer is right around the corner when the New York State Fair announces its first acts for free Chevy Court concerts!

According to a press release from the State Fair, three acts have been announced for free shows at Chevy Court. The most well known of the three is 70s funk/soul band The Commodores, who will be joined in the lineup by alternative rockers Neon Trees and jazz/swing band Buddy Rich Big Band.

"These performers will bring a broad range of music lovers to the Fair," said State Fair Director Dan O'Hara. "We want the music on Chevy Court to appeal to everyone who walks through the gates by offering a great deal of variety in music and performers."

Motown's The Commodores are best known for their hits "Brick House", "Three Times a Lady", and "Nightshift". They will perform on Friday, August 31 at 8:00 p.m.

Neon Trees' single "Animal" was #1 on the alternative rock chart and was featured in an episode of the TV show "Glee". They are also the band featured in the Buick Verano commercial that ran heavily during the recent NCAA Tournament - the one with the woman followed around by the tour buses. That song is called "Everybody Talks", and the video is embedded above. They will appear on opening day of the Fair, Thursday, August 23 at 8:00 p.m.

The Buddy Rich Big Band has been performing jazz and swing music since 1966, and pays homage to the late Buddy Rich, who was said at the time to be "the world's greatest drummer." The band will perform on Monday, August 27 at 2:00 p.m. - one of the Fair's two senior days.

All Chevy Court shows are free with admission to the Fair. The State Fair will run from August 23 to September 3, 2012.
