SYRACUSE (AP) -- A Syracuse elementary school closed for a year and a half is reopening after a $29 million renovation project.

Dr. Weeks Elementary School has been shuttered since June 2011 and will reopen Wednesday.

The Post Standard of Syracuse reports that the school, which was built in the 1970s, was gutted and rebuilt. There will be more windows and classrooms will feature up-to-date smart boards.

The school is one of four that the district has renovated or is renovating through a joint city-school district effort.  H.W. Smith, Institute of Technology and Fowler High School are the others.
