Over 600 bicyclists raised money for the Diabetes Tour de Cure, and rode Sunday morning from Verona Beach State Park
Over 600 bike riders checked in to Verona Beach State Park early Sunday morning for this year's Diabetes Tour de Cure.
They rode 15, 28, 40 63 or 100 miles (all the way around Oneida Lake), after collecting pledges to go towards diabetes research and educational outreach here in the Central New York area.
Among the riders, the Red Shirts, red t-shirted participants who are surviving Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, an inability to process sugars that can lead to major long-term health issues.
Recent estimates project as many as one in three American adults will have diabetes within 40 years. Right now, 18.8 million are diagnosed, and it's believed at least 7 million more are unaware they have it. For more information, check the diabetes website or call 1-800-diabetes.
