LIVERPOOL -- If you’re having trouble getting a good night’s sleep, you’re not alone.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, an estimated 50 to 70 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders.

Neil Widrick, Manager of St. Joseph's Sleep Labs, says that it is a problem. Lack of sleep can lead to major health issues such as obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes.

"Proper sleep makes you feel better. ‘Sleep well, live well’ is our motto here," he says.

Widrick manages all three of St. Joe's sleep labs including the hospital’s newest one in Liverpool.

A 6,000 square foot facility with 16, "hotel like" amenities, and monitoring devices designed to help sleep specialists determine just what it is that is keeping you up.

Widrick says sleep apnea, the most common sleep disorder, can usually be cured by wearing a special mask that helps your body breathe properly while you sleep.

"It's airflow that goes through your nose and in the back of your throat it actually opens up and creates an airway," he says.
