SYRACUSE -- Syracuse University Friday evening identified the freshman student discovered dead in a dorm room on campus. The student is Courtenay Nash of McLean, Virgina.
According to Syracuse Police, the death does not appear to be criminal in nature, and no one else is in jeopardy. Syracuse Police and members of S.U.'s Public Safety Department have been outside DellPlain Hall investigating.
This is the email sent to the Syracuse University community from Chancellor Nancy Cantor:
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,
I am profoundly saddened to inform you of the loss of Syracuse University student Courtenay Nash, who passed away unexpectedly earlier today. Coming to SU from McLean, Virginia, Courtenay was a resident of Dellplain Hall and first-year student in The College of Arts & Sciences, majoring in economics.
Our hearts are with Courtenay's family, friends near and far, and all members of the SU community whose lives she touched.
Losing a member of our campus family is so painful. As surely as it affects us all, it can affect each of us differently. As we reach out to comfort each other, we should remember that we have avenues including the Counseling Center (443-4715), Hendricks Chapel (443-2901) and the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program (443-1087), which are available to anyone who feels a need for support. In addition, Hendricks Chapel will be open tonight from 7-9 p.m. for quiet thought and reflection.
