SYRACUSE -- UPDATE: The Syracuse vigil honoring those lost in the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school shooting has been postponed. The vigil in Syracuse's Clinton Square was originally scheduled for Monday, December 17th from 5:30-6:30pm.

The City of Syracuse says it is very supportive of the vigil, but needs more time to prepare and arrange logistics.

Additional information about the rescheduled date will be posted when it becomes available.

ORIGINAL STORY: A candlelight vigil to honor those who lost their lives in the Newtown, Connecticut elementary school shooting will be held in Clinton Square in Syracuse Monday December 17th from 5:30-6:30 pm.

The vigil will be near the Christmas tree, with the band Under the Gun performing the song “Give Peace a Chance.”

The band, who is heading up the event, is encouraging attendees to bring candles and guitars if they play.

Band member Lee Anderson says of the event: "Maybe we can do something positive here in Syracuse and it would be wonderful if the people in Connecticut found out that we are sending our love and support."

All are welcome to attend.

There will also be a vigil held in Waterloo Sunday December 16th at 6 pm. People will gather in downtown Waterloo under the street angels.
