SYRACUSE -- While some brought signs, others brought their words to a public hearing on National Grid's proposed delivery rates for electricity and natural gas.

National Grid held two public hearings about the proposal in Syracuse on Thursday, hoping to educate the public on what the proposal would mean not only for National Grid, but for their customers bill as well.

If the proposal were to go through, some National Grid customers would see an overall 2 percent delivery rate decrease in their electric bill over the next three years, and about a 2 percent increase in gas bills over the same time period. To simplify, customers would see a decrease in their bill for the first year, followed by an increase in the second and third.

National Grid says the money would go towards infrastructure investment.

At the hearings, which took place at Fowler High School and Onondaga Community College, the public was divided. Some people spoke about how up-to-date and state-of-the-art infrastructure would be good for the economy here in Central New York, while some of the customers were frustrated about their bill eventually rising.
