SYRACUSE -- The place where legendary Syracuse boxer and youth mentor Ray Rinaldi does his work was the scene of a crime early Tuesday evening.

Here's what Syracuse Police say happened after the alarm at the boxing center went off:

Officers Alex Cazzolli and Brandon Fougnier arrived at the North Area Athletic Club  and observed that a window was open and the screen that belonged on the window was damaged and laying on the ground. While the officers were in the process of setting up a perimeter around the building, a male suspect exited the building and fled on foot. The officers pursued the suspect and took the 14 year old male suspect into custody on the 1100 block of North Salina Street. The juvenile was charged with the felony of Burglary in the third degree, and the misdemeanor of Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree. The name of the suspect is not being released due to his age.

Recently, Rinaldi's work with children was the subject of this report, which indicates the center is in need of more funding.
