We’re not talking another blizzard, but after the unseasonably mild weather Monday, with temperatures reaching into the 40s, we have another taste of blustery, winter weather on the way! A cold front pushing through CNY late afternoon on Monday will turn winds more into the west ushering in some colder weather on a gusty wind.

This airmass will be cold enough to get the lake snow machine going again tonight into Tuesday and a part of Tuesday Night. As always, the exact wind direction plays an important part in exactly who sees the lake snow, so let me break it down.

The way I see it as of this writing, the dominant wind direction through Tuesday should be westerly. This would highlight the counties directly east of Lake Ontario as having the best chance for seeing any significant lake snows. Two caveats to this however. With a west wind, the Tug Hill, locations like Redfield. Montague, Highmarket and Barnes Corners would have the best chance for seeing the heavier amounts, maybe 10 inches of fresh now by Tuesday evening. Also, I see “some” indications that the prime lake effect area “may” sneak down along Route 31, Baldwinsville to Clay to Cicero at times on Tuesday. We will monitor. Either way, this does not look like a major lake effect event, at least at this time, but stay tuned to our CNYcentral forecasts as we continue to analyze new data, computer models and monitor Triple Doppler Radar.
