SYRACUSE -- A Syracuse man is charged with stabbing his two pit bulls, killing one of them.

Police say they were called to Ash Street a little after midnight. When they arrived, they say they spotted 53-year-old Francis Mason in front of his home covered in blood.

After investigating, police discovered Mason had stabbed his two pit bull mixed breed dogs after an earlier incident in which they attacked another dog.

Officers say one of the dogs, named Dana, died at the home. The other dog, Lea, was taken to the Veterinary Medical Center in East Syracuse. The dog had serious injuries but has been treated and is in stable condition.

Mason was arrested and charged with two counts of felony Aggravated Animal Cruelty.
