SYRACUSE -- Syracuse police and fire officials are investigating a fire at a vacant home on the city’s north side Tuesday morning.

Onondaga County 911 reports a fire started at a home on the 600 block of East Division Street around 10:00 a.m. Firefighters were called and arrived on the scene just a few minutes later. Deputy Chief Steve Caputo tells CNY Central that the building was vacant at the time of the fire, but witnesses reported seeing someone coming out of it shortly before the fire was noticed. Chief Caputo did not have any information on the identity of that individual.

Caputo says there was no one inside the home, and no one was injured. The fire spread to a nearby building, but was put out in about 20 minutes.

Caputo says the fire department responded to another call at the same location earlier this year. The house had been previously damaged by that fire, allowing this one to spread more quickly.

No word yet on a cause of the fire, or if it is considered suspicious.
