TULLY -- Dave and Diana Johnson have been giving back their entire lives.
Now it's their turn.
“We want to kind of repay that and help them out a little bit,” said Bob Whitehead, a captain with the Syracuse Fire Department.
The Johnsons live in a three bedroom, two bathroom ranch in Tully with their eight children.
And that's just the start.
In total, the couple has raised three biological kids, adopted 14 others and fostered another 12.
“They've always given everything for these kids and sacrificed everything for these kids,” said Whitehead.
But space inside the home is cramped and extensive, costly repairs are needed.
Dave, a retired, 35 veteran of the Syracuse Fire Department -- has a health problem that limit his mobility.
One son has Crohn’s Disease.
Now -- their home is on the verge of major changes.
"We're going to totally remodel the inside and outside of the house, make it nice, make it handicap accessible, really make it a nice place and as maintenance free as possible,” said Whitehead.
Construction starts Monday morning and continues around the clock for three weeks.
The home is scheduled to be finished by May 7th.
Until then, the family is staying at a campground in Tully.
