SYRACUSE -- We continue to follow our Biggest Loser contestant, and this week, he lost another 4 pounds. Since the beginning of his recent weight loss efforts, Darryl Sanford of Syracuse has lost 30 pounds. Prior to that, he lost about 70 lbs., so Darryl is well on his way to a healthier life.
He appeared on Today in Central New York on NBC 3 this morning for another weigh in and to talk about simple changes he's made in his life to put himself on a healthier path. His trainer, Barb St. Pierre of Trillium Fitness, joined him to talk about easy ways we can all boost our metabolism.
Here are some suggestions to consider:
*Sit on a physioball instead of a chair
*Stand vs sit (when taking a phone call, answering an email)
*Body weight squats, jumping jacks, push-ups at your office desk
*Get enough sleep
*Move about briskly "the pace when you're late for something"
*Park in a farther spot at the grocery store and bring your cart all the way back to the store
*Shoot for 2000 of your recommended 10,000 steps simply by getting up and moving around at work (take a flight of stairs, walk to your co-worker versus sending an email, etc)
*Do you get 30-60 min for lunch? Use some of that time exercising
*Always have a pair of walking shoes on hand (in your car, under your desk) so you are ready at all times for movement
*Rely less on modern technology - try washing dishes by hand, wash your car by hand
