State Budget: Good news to report on the state budget. Governor Paterson and legislative leaders say they have come to an agreement on the framework of a state budget deal. A $124 billion budget that includes a 4.5% spending increase which is half a percent less than Spitzer's budget. Lawmakers plan on working through the weekend to make sure the budget is in place by this Tuesday, the start of the fiscal year.
Thruway Toll Hike: Local drivers get their chance to speak out on the State Thruway Authority's proposed toll hikes. The Thruway Authority wants to increase tolls by 5% next year, and another 5-percent in 2010. Those opposed to the plan include truckers, who say increased fees will cut into their bottom line. On the other side of the argument, those in favor of the plan say the money needs to be spent to take care of the roads.
White Ribbons: Taking a stand against domestic violence. Vera House today kicks off its' White Ribbon Campaign. Supporters will gather in Clinton Square at Noon, and march to Armory Square, where they'll tie white ribbons around trees and street lamps to bring awareness to their cause.
