VICTORY, CAYUGA COUNTY (AP) -- A former coach for girls' teams at a Central New York school district has been charged with sexually abusing a student.

The Cayuga County Sheriff's Department says 31-year-old Kelly Powers of Red Creek was also charged this week with endangering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned in town court and released on her own recognizance.

Authorities say Powers sexually abused a student younger than 14. Deputies say the abuse occurred at the victim's home, on school property and on a school bus.

Red Creek School District officials say Powers has quit her jobs as an office monitor and coach of the girls' junior high school soccer and basketball teams.

There is no listing for Kelly Powers in Red Creek.
