LIVERPOOL -- Congressman Dan Maffei, representatives from seven federal agencies, and the Syracuse Chamber of Commerce met at the Holiday Inn in Liverpool Monday to help local residents make sense of the federal stimulus. The goal was to educate small business owners about the federal government's effort to jump start the economy and teach them about what opportunities exist for them.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is complicated and local businesses are trying to sort through it to figure out how it can help them. "There's a lot of programs out there that I was surprised to hear about," said Damian Vanetti, Vice President of S&W Redevelopment. "It's interesting that they're there. It's going to be interesting to see what's really easy enough to get that you can bring it all together for a project," Vanetti said.
"It may take a little bit of digging and also it may take applying for a loan more than once," said Rep. Dan Maffei, D-Syracuse. "You may get turned down a couple of times. But persistence does seem to be paying off," Maffei said.
