Commemorating Apollo 11's 40th anniversary
Forty years ago, July 20,1969, we landed on the moon. To commemorate the anniversary, Lockheed Martin gathered students from a different generation to work on the skills that got us there...math, science and engineering.
It’s all part of a week-long Young Engineering Campers program. High school students from around the area were invited to take part in this event. Monday, they were at Lockheed Martin and the theme was space exploration. The students were placed in groups and their mission was to deal with a hypothetical accident at a research facility where an imaginary team needed supplies.
Students we spoke with say they are excited about the possibility of landing on Mars someday. They hope they can play some role in that event. Organizers say that is exactly what the week-long camp is aiming for... getting kids to stay involved with math, science and engineering.
Tuesday, the group will head to another location and continue to work on their skills.
