CATO (AP) -- Authorities say a 79-year-old Central New York man charged with killing a motorist in a road-rage incident has a violent criminal history that includes beating a man to death in the 1960s.

William Levea of Fulton was charged last week with second-degree murder after Cayuga County sheriff's deputies say he rammed Christopher Spack's pickup truck, causing it to slam into another vehicle.

The 41-year-old Spack died in the crash. Levea was also charged with driving while intoxicated.

Investigators are trying to determine a motive for the incident.

Authorities say Levea beat a man to death in an Oswego County bar in 1967 and was sentenced to probation after being convicted of felony assault. He served prison time for a robbery conviction in the 1950s.
