SYRACUSE -- Some Fowler High School students are learning life lessons that cannot be valued, and should they pursue a military career, they’re ahead of the game.
These students are members of the G.W. Fowler Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC). While there’s no actual military service obligation, the group is sponsored by the United States Navy. The group has been at Fowler for two years, and enrollment has skyrocketed, and there’s currently over 90 student members.
The main objective of the JROTC teaches the young adults how to be responsible for themselves and their community, and teaches self-discipline. The group at Fowler marches in local Veterans Day and Memorial Day parades as well as its fair share of community service projects. They’re easy to spot roaming the halls at Fowler - each cadet has a uniform with ribbons just like you’d see on a decorated officer.
