BUFFALO -- The first day of round one of the NCAA men's basketball tournament was filled with upsets and buzzer beating shots. Today, two local teams take to the court.
Cornell takes on Temple at about 12:15, exclusively here on CBS 5 immediately following our abbreviated noon news broadcast.
Tonight at about 9:40 here on CBS 5 the Syracuse Orangemen take on Vermont. Some Orange fans held out hope that Arinze Onuaku's condition would improve and the Center would be able to play against Vermont. That is not the case, says Syracuse Head Coach Jim Boeheim.
Onuaku still feels pain anytime he puts pressure on that injured leg. He's definitely out for the Vermont game, and almost certainly out for any second round game as well.
While Onuaku's absence definitely hurts SU, the players are using it as motivation to try and extend this season so that A.O. can make it on the floor at least one more time.
Our John Evenson and Alex Dunbar are in Buffalo, where SU is playing, and will have reports here and on NBC 3, CBS 5 & CW 6 throughout the tournament.
Be sure to tune in tonight to CBS 5 at 6:30 for our pre-game special, "March Into Madness".
Also, if you and your co-workers or family are doing anything special this afternoon for the Cornell game, or this evening for the SU game, please let us know. Also send your pictures of you and your pals decked out in SU orange or Cornell red to news@cnycentral.com.
