SYRACUSE --

Syracuse Police have identified the city's latest homicide victim as 27-year-old Allen Ross from Syracuse. Ross died around 3:00 p.m. Sunday after being shot in broad daylight in the courtyard of the Parkside Commons apartment complex on the city's east side.

When police arrived at 1815 East Fayette Street they found Ross on the ground. He received medical treatment at the scene but was pronounced dead at Upstate University Hospital. Ross is the fourth homicide victim in Syracuse this year.

Police spent much of the afternoon looking for evidence in the courtyard and streets around Parkside Commons.

"Our crime scene unit is working on processing the scene, our detectives are working on trying to canvas the neighborhood, find any witnesses, drum up any leads there may be," said Sgt. Gary Bulinski of the Syracuse Police Department.

The shooting frightened neighbor Tammy Melton.  The courtyard Parkside Commons is often filled with people.

"it's always kids out here and it's always people driving by - that's why it's scary," said Melton.

Police are looking for help from the public and they would like to talk to anyone who overhead Allen Ross in an argument, saw the shooting or where the shots came from. The number for Syracuse Police is 442-5222. Police say all calls will be kept confidential.
