SYRACUSE -- A local man has been sentenced to prison after admitting he robbed an elderly woman earlier this year.
On Wednesday morning, Onondaga County Court Judge William Walsh sentenced 46-year-old Karl M. Bass of Richmond Avenue in Syracuse to seven years in prison after Bass pleaded guilty to a charge of first degree robbery. This past February Bass was indicted by a Grand Jury on the robbery charge as well as unlawful imprisonment.
Police previously said that on January 13 Bass got into a 77-year-old woman’s car at the Rite Aid on Onondaga Boulevard and demanded money from her, showing a knife in the process. Bass then forced the woman to drive to two separate banks so she could withdraw additional cash. Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin Walsh said that Bass robbed the woman to support his drug habit.
Police also said that once the woman had withdrawn her money and given it to Bass, he forced her to drive to the Burger King at the corner of West Genesee Street and Geddes Street where he left her car and ran off.
Two days later, the Sheriff’s Office announced that detectives had identified and arrested Bass, and had charged him with charging him with felony first degree robbery, felony second degree unlawful imprisonment, and misdemeanor fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon.
