(AP) -- BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo says a new initiative will make it harder for people to use social networking sites to share child pornography.

Cuomo says Facebook and MySpace have agreed to use a database of digital image codes newly developed by New York investigators to help block the posting of child porn. The 8,000 images currently in the database is relatively small compared to the number of images on the Internet. But Cuomo said Thursday more will be added as law enforcement agencies contribute digital fingerprints, or "hash values."

Cuomo is urging 13 other social networking sites to use the database as well.

Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes says cases of child porn on the site are rare, but immediately reported to authorities.
