AUBURN -- It was a reunion so many were looking forward to.
The soldiers of the 22nd Military Police Company were coming home after nearly a year of duty in Iraq.
They arrived to cheers, hugs and tears as their friends and family greeted them at the Armory base in Auburn.
SGT. Tom Barnard was overcome with emotion as he saw his wife for the first time in a year. As he hugged and kissed her, all he had to say was, “It’s really cool.”
The 222nd Company helped train Iraqi police officers and assisted with security during Iraq's parliamentary elections in March.
Some of the soldiers’ stay will be permanent, while others will be going back.
But for today, the soldiers of the 222 were exactly where they wanted to be.
