(AP) -- Authorities are attempting to identify a man's body found floating in the Erie Canal in Rochester.
Fire and police crews recovered the body Thursday after a tugboat operator for the New York state canal system reported seeing it around 9:15 a.m. along a wooded stretch of the waterway along Rochester's southern city limits.
Rochester police say the body appeared to have been floating in the canal for several days.
Authorities say the identity of the man is unknown. Police are considering the death suspicious until they rule out foul play.
The Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy.
