ONONDAGA LAKE -- Lawmakers are trying to support the cleanup of Onondaga Lake. Representative Dan Maffei and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand are introducing the Onondaga Lake Restoration Act which would restructure the partnership currently overseeing the project.
Onondaga County is planning to build a network of trees, trenches, gardens, and rain barrels to prevent storm water from reaching sewers and the lake. The EPA is experienced in implementing these green infrastructure projects.
The EPA can start a watershed council that will create the plan for the Lake.
A plan will have to be approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Governor of New York.
