ARISE says there are still accessibility issues

Photo

It's been twenty years since the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act opened doors, literally, for the disabled.  ARISE, which advocates for the disabled in Onondaga County, plans a march on Monday to mark the anniversary.  But Beata Karpinski-Prehn, the Advocacy Manager, says there are still lots of areas that need more work, including handicapped parking spaces and building accessibility, business government and private homes. She also says the physical changes are easier to make than perceptions, though as the population ages and more become disabled becaue of age, people become more 'understanding.'

The march is Monday starting at 10am, from ARISE at 736 James Street to the Oncenter, where July will be proclaimed disability awareness month.  For more,  www.ariseinc.org
