SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse Board of Zoning appeals decides today if the Syracuse Real Food Co-op can move to a bigger building on East Genesee Street. The board will decide whether the neighborhood will go from residential to commercial.
The controversial issue has divided the diverse neighborhood. While some residents welcome the fresh vegetables, meats and groceries, others are concerned about the extra truck traffic and noise.
The new 11,000 square foot grocery store would like to move from 618 Kensington Road to 2200 East Genesee Street. The residents affected are between Allen Street and Fellows Avenue.
Neighbors fear changing the zoning laws from single family residential to commercial would change the character of the neighborhood.
