Fort Drum getting new garrison commander

FORT DRUM (AP) -- The home of the Army's 10th Mountain Division based in northern New York is getting a new garrison commander.

A change of command ceremony is scheduled Thursday morning at Fort Drum, where Col. Noel Nicolle will assume command from Col. Kenneth Riddle.

Riddle has been in charge of New York's largest military installation since April 2008.

Nicolle's last posting was at Fort Sill in Oklahoma, where he was director of training and doctrine development of the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence. In Iraq, he served commanded a brigade that trained and equipped Iraqi police.

About 18,000 soldiers are based at Fort Drum, located 75 miles north of Syracuse.
