NEDROW -- A 25-year-old woman is in good spirits tonight after being shot in the chest by her boyfriend's brother.

Police say everything happened around 11:30 am, which is when they received word of a possible burglary in Nedrow.  When they arrived at a home on Laursen Drive, they found much more.

State Police say 35-year-old James Tyler shot his brother's girlfriend, 25-year-old Brittany McAlpine inside the home of Tyler's mother.  McAlpine's 1-month-old son was also in the home at the time, but was not harmed.  McAlpine was taken to University Hospital.

In the meantime, a nearly two hour standoff ensued.  James' mother, who was in the home to start, made her way out to police and helped them negotiate with her son.

"The suspects mother was in contact with him throughout the approximately one hour and forty five minute standoff. But eventually we were able to speak with him directly, and he surrendered as a result of our negotiations with him.  He came out with his hand in the air and surrendered to us," said Captain Jeffrey Raub.

Police are still trying to figure out the motive behind all this.  They are also still searching for the weapon used today.

Earlier

Just before 2pm on Sunday, a man who'd been surrounded by police agencies, in a home on Laursen Drive in Nedrow, surrendered and was taken from the scene in custody, ending an incident that began before noon.

The Nedrow Fire Department says a woman has been taken to the hospital, reportedly after being shot.

Several law enforcement agencies--including State Police, Syracuse Police, Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies and the SWAT team converged on the scene, just north of the Onondaga Nation Territory, just before noon.

We have journalists at the scene and will update you as more information comes from the debrief, expected shortly.
