ALBANY --
On at least 2 social issues the candidates for the office of the Attorney General seem to be hedging their bets.
The issues are reproductive rights and gun rights – both among the most contentious in American civic life, so it's no wonder the candidates don't want to be forced into any absolutes…
Eric Schneiderman, Democratic AG Candidate, had a very good morning. The Democratic candidate for Attorney General was heaped with praise and enthusiastically endorsed by Planned Parenthood.
While Schneiderman's long-time advocacy for progressive causes makes him a shoo-in for this endorsement, his opponent, Staten Island District Attorney Dan Donovan, isn't simply rolling over on the issue.
Dan Donovan, Republican AG Candidate says. “I am personally opposed, but I will fight for a woman's right to choose.
Donovan's position may not be enough for an advocate like Tracy Brooks, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood, however, it could be just what a voter on the fence needs to cast a vote one way or another.
When it comes to the 2nd Amendment, Schneiderman, who has the endorsement of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence and has pushed a “microstamping” bill, is using a similar strategy. “I am a supporter of everyone's 2nd amendment rights, just like I am a supporter of all constitutional rights."
It should be noted that with absolutely NO equivocating, each of the AG candidates has stated he wants to take illegal guns off the streets.
