LIVERPOOL -- Autism is one of the fastest growing developmental disorders.  1 in every 110 children are affected, and every 20 minutes another kid is diagnosed.

Sunday, 1,200 people took steps toward finding the cause, and cure at Long Branch Park in Liverpool for Walk Now for Autism Speaks!

"Everybody needs to be involved as much as possible, anybody that has a family affected by autism. You need to get out there and get more awareness and hopefully get to a point where we can find a cure," said Brie Buskey.  'There are lots of challenges, school is a challenge, going to dinner is a challenge everything is a challenge.  But it's a learning experience and it makes you a better person."

More than $30,000 was raised at the event, which will help fund vital research to find a cure for the disorder.

"Any kind of support we can get from the community is a good thing.  Our kids are trying to be bad they don't want to be bad, they just have a hard time living in our world," said Erin Mast, co-chair of the walk.

CNY Central and NBC 3 were proud media sponsors of the walk, and Matt Mulcahy was the honorary chairman

Here's Matt's Memo blog from the kick off event in August.
