ALBANY --
A rift over property tax reform between the Governor and Assembly Speaker was obvious today at high tech announcement in Albany.
The lead to this story should have gone something like this…In a move worth over $100 million, International Sematech, the computer chip manufacturer, is relocating its headquarters to the UAlbany Nanocollege.
Instead, the assembled press seemed more interested in other issues...like Carl Paladino's comments over the weekend about the gay lifestyle.
Governor Paterson says, "The speaker has made it clear that he will work out with the next governor I'm not going to upstage and make this about me".Two weeks ago Governor Paterson promised not to call the legislature back to Albany for a Special Session prior to the November election in exchange for the Speaker's promise to bring "meaningful property tax reform" to the floor of the Assembly. But the Speaker hasn't yet given his word, which was an obvious irritation Tuesday to Governor Paterson.
When asked if he was concerned that the Governor might still call a special session, Silver replied, I'm never concerned." A comment that could be construed as a bit of playfulness or as reflective of Silver's consolidation of power in Albany. .
