UTICA (AP) -- A federal jury has found a central New York air monitoring company and three of its employees guilty of mail fraud and violating the Clean Air Act.

Certified Environmental Services Inc. of Syracuse and manager Elisa Dunn also were convicted Wednesday of making false statements to federal law enforcement.

As alleged in a 16-count indictment filed last year, CES, its employees, and a supervisor from a former asbestos abatement company, Paragon Environmental Construction, conspired for nearly a decade to falsify lab results to prove that asbestos removal was done properly.

In several instances, the companies said homes, schools and other buildings were free of asbestos contamination when asbestos debris actually remained.
