Syracuse church gives 1,000 turkeys to needy
The line outside Syracuse's Oncenter started forming well before light, for Saturday's turkey giveaway.
It's become a yearly outreach by the River of Life Family Church, and the second year the pre-Thanksgiving giveaway has been done at Syracuse's Oncenter.
Pastor Danny Thornton had told us he wasn't sure all the turkeys would be given away. Not to worry. By the time they opened the doors for a service before the handouts, there were hundreds waiting. The first had come before 4:30am.
Gary Northrup was among those at the front of the line. The Syracuse man says he does not have a job, and he wanted to give his wife and daughter a nice holiday, so it was worth getting up at 4am. Others in line said they brought friends and relatives to get several turkeys. River of Life said there were no guidelines for the giveaway, just first come, first served.
