SYRACUSE -- This is the week for holiday travel, and Syracuse airport officials are advising travelers to arrive early to get through security in order to get to their flights on time. Here's the news release that just arrived in our newsroom:
City of Syracuse Commissioner of Aviation, Rory A. McMahon, today urged travelers flying out of Syracuse during the next several days to arrive early and allow enough time for processing and security procedures. Passengers are encouraged to arrive at the Airport two hours prior to their scheduled departure time, in order to allow enough time to park, for check-in and process through security screening.
"Traditionally, the Thanksgiving holiday is the start of the holiday travel season," Commissioner McMahon said. "We expect more people to travel by air this year, and are encouraging travelers to give themselves enough time to make their traveling experience an enjoyable one."
New to the airport this year are two laptop workstations, each one located post security in Concourse A and Concourse B. These workstations allow passengers to plug in their laptops, and access the free wireless in a comfortable setting, while waiting for their flight to leave.
As a reminder, additional overflow parking is available, should the open lot and garage fill to capacity. Should that occur, please follow the overflow parking signs to the appropriate lot.
The Transportation Security Administration is reminding travelers to be prepared when coming through the airport security checkpoint during the upcoming travel period. Travelers should remember to have ready a valid form of government issued identification, remove shoes, coats, and other metal object such as keys, coins, jewelry, etc. and have laptops and the "3-1-1" bag out and placed in the screening bins. Those flying out of Syracuse can expect no changes in the security screening process, as currently, Syracuse does not utilize advanced image technology.
