Organizers call it a 'wacky experience that you'll never forget.'  But, they also say that some people who take a dip in Oneida Lake--in December--are repeaters.  It is for a cause: to raise money for the Special Olympics.
Mike Murray, who's the Law Enforcement Torch Run program director, is one of the event organizers.  He says that the Special Olympics are costly:  New York has almost 49-thousand special athletes in training, and it costs $400 to support training and competition for one athlete for one sports season.

This year's Plunge, at Oneida Shores, is set for Sunday, December 5th.  Registration starts at 9am, with the Plunge at Noon.
It's a lead-up to this year's winter Special Olympics, set for Syracuse in February.
