BREWERTON -- Hundreds of people took the Polar Plunge today into Oneida Lake.
The 4th Annual Polar Plunge helped raise money and awareness for athletes in the New York Special Olympics. But what exactly draws so many people to jump in a frigid lake the same day Central New York is hammered with its first snowfall?
"Once you interact with the athletes and their families and see how much they appreciate what you do for them, it's very easy to come back and do it time and time again," said Lt. June Worden of the New York State Police."
And it's even more special for the athletes themselves.
"It's so refreshing, and it makes you feel so alive in the lake," said Peter Dailey, a Special Olympics athlete from Rochester. "I love supporting the Special Olympics and I like to give back to what I receive everyday as an athlete."
